P. L. Garrison Jr., 79, of Lincoln, Neb., formerly of Morton, died at 2:05 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010, at Lancaster Manor in Lincoln.
He was born Dec. 17, 1930, in Marion, Ill., to Percy L. and Muriel (Hudgens) Garrison. He married Nellie J. Carpenter Sept. 18, 1959, in Peoria. She preceded him in death May 1, 1990. He also was preceded in death by his parents.
Surviving are one daughter, Karen (Andrew) Cheesman of Lincoln, Neb.; two sons, Gregg (Karan) Garrison of Kansas City, Mo., and Doug Garrison of Lincoln, Neb.; and nine grandchildren, Abby Cheesman, Jack Cheesman, Isabel Cheesman, Paaka Cheesman, Stephanie Garrison, Philip Garrison, Seth Garrison, Kaitlin Garrison and Kirsten Garrison.
He was a veteran of the Army, serving from June 10, 1955, to June 8, 1957. He was a former commander of American Legion Post 318 in Morton and served as baseball chairman of the American Legion Post 318 Baseball Program.
P. L. worked at Nestle for Libby’s in Morton, until his retirement as a purchasing manager.
Cremation has been accorded. Visitation will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Ludwig Mortuary in Morton. Private burial of the cremated remains will be in Roberts Cemetery in Morton, where military services will be conducted by the United States Army and Tazewell Military Rites Team.
