The goal of National Mammography Day is educating and empowering women to take charge of their own breast health by practicing regular self-breast exams to identify any changes, scheduling regular visits and annual mammograms with their healthcare provider.
Tazewell County Health Department and Pekin Hospital Women’s Diagnostic Center have been providing free mammograms on National Mammography Day in October for 11 years.
On Friday, women ages 40-64 with no health insurance will be eligible for a free mammogram.
Free mammograms will be available from 9 a.m.–4 p.m. at the Women’s Diagnostic Center at Pekin Hospital.
No appointment is necessary.
Women with no health insurance should bring proof of age and proof of household income (the last two paycheck stubs for all wage earners in the household.)
Women who have already received a free mammogram from TCHD, Medicaid and Medicare patients are not eligible for services on National Mammography Day.
Women who receive their mammogram will receive a heel scan bone density screening, free chair massage, and education on breast health and adult immunizations.
Greenhouse Flower Shoppe and CJ’s Café are sponsors of the 11th Annual Mammography Day.
