What area events are planned for Veterans Day?

The Morton American Legion Post 318 will be unveiling the newest rolling memorial by the Mowhawk Man at 3 p.m. Sunday at the corner of S. Main and E. Washington, just south of the American Legion Post. The rolling memorial features the name of every man that has not returned from all wars and conflicts since the Korean War to today.

In Metamora, the Metamora-Germantown Hills Junior Woman's Club will host the annual "Avenue of Flags" display from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday at Metamora Park. The park on the square will have over a hundred flags on display for the day.

East Peoria will feature two events during the day. A Veterans Memorial Ceremony will start at 11 a.m. Saturday at Fondulac Cemetery featuring a 21-gun salute by the Tazewell Military Rites team. A Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2078 Veterans Day Parade starts at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. The parade starts at Columbia and Washington streets before ending at EP's Time Out on East Washington Street. Hot dogs will be served at the end of the parade.

Washington will also feature three events with a veterans display going from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at the Dement-Zinser House. A ceremony will start at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Washington Christian Village which is hosted by the Washington American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

The annual Veterans Day celebration hosted by Deiters and the Washington Chamberof Commerce is set for 2 p.m. Sunday, at Deiters.

Finally, Chillicothe Elementary Center will host a Veterans Day breakfast at 8 a.m. on Friday at 914 W. Truitt Ave. At 9 a.m. a program is being planned by students.
