The Holidazzle Weekend is the beginning of the Christmas shopping season for Morton.
On Friday is a chili supper at the Morton Community United Church of Christ located at 300 N. Main St. from 4-7:30 p.m. The event will let families enjoy supper and participate in the tree lighting.
The Morton Tourism Association will offer a special treat of cinnamon hot pretzels and hot cocoa in front of MCB North Main. A wreath sale will be held at Singsations, 117 W. Jefferson, from 5:30-9 p.m.
There will be lots to do at Inspired Arts Academy, 316 S. Main, during the evening. At 5 p.m. will be Russ the Artist, with Julie K. starting at 5:30 p.m. A Nutcracker Ballerina will be at 6 p.m. and A Live Fairy will be at 7:30 p.m.
Wine tastings will be held at Wines ‘n More and The Liquor Station from 5 to 7 p.m.
The Morton Community Foundation’s “Tree of Dreams” next to their offices at 309 N. Main, has now become part of the holiday traditions of the village. The tree lighting ceremony will take place at 7 p.m. Friday.
Foundation volunteers have been instrumental in the decorating of the tree with the help of Jay Winkel and One Source Equipment Rental. The public is invited to attend and then stroll the candle lit downtown area until 9 p.m. for shopping, dining and visiting with old friends.
Santa will be at Morton Community Bank Downtown, across the street from the tree from 5 to 8 p.m.
Bring the kids and a camera to take holiday pictures.
The holiday celebration continues on Saturday as the Morton Community United Church of Christ will open at 9 a.m. with a Stop and Shop Christmas Open House, featuring many of the well-known party sales brands.
There will be a craft sale at Morton First Presbyterian Church on Jackson and the Morton United Methodist Church on Tennessee.
From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Morton Merchants hold Open Houses in their shops at the Field Shopping Center, downtown, Johnson Florist and the Red Barn areas of the village.
All plan on special sales with their holiday merchandise.
Visit Eli’s Coffee for Kid’s Knit activities from 9 to 11:30 a.m., where shoppers can purchase a kit and get instructions on how to knit a cap.
Singsations will off hot cocoa and reindeer punch, face painting and a wreath sale at 117 E. Jefferson.
The Field Shopping Center will have Santa, a natural stone truck sale at Pumpkin Glass, and free kid’s cookie decorating at From the Field Cooking School.
Stop at any participating merchant and pick up a special coupon book full of money saving offers from local Morton merchants.
The books are free and available throughout the Village in participating shops.
There are additional activities set for the celebration.
