  • Powerful Beyond Measure

The ability to impact a person’s life in a positive manner, to encourage them to shine thereby allowing all those around them to shine, embodies the spirit of the MHS Marching Band staff and students.  How apropos that the Marianne Williamson quote was used as the concept of this year’s performance.  And shine they did — Class 2A Champions at Illinois State University for the 8th consecutive year to cap a spectacular band season that included a half-time performance at the St. Louis Rams/ Green Bay Packers game in front of 64,000 fans.

But it really is not about the accolades. What it is about is the hard work, determination, and perseverance that come long before the awards.  It is about working as a team, encouraging each to do their very best and taking pride in their talent. It is about the realization that individual recognition will not be given and that there are others more talented than you.  Teamwork and discipline are absolute requirements.  And in the end the success is so, so sweet.

It is with deep gratitude that I recognize Director Jeff Neavor, Assistant Director Craig Fitzpatrick, Staff - Katrina Fitzpatrick, Bob Hornsby, Ben Dralle, Ronni Stalter, guard choreographer Katie Lampe, and volunteers Mark Donahue, Brett Luce & Andrew Howell for their absolute and tireless guidance leading the MHS Band to such success year after year. The life lessons learned through this program are priceless.

Congratulations to each and every band student, parent, staff and supporter for making the MHS Band program “Powerful Beyond Measure” — well done.
