THREE EVENT HIGHLIGHTS
1. The 28th annual East Peoria Festival of Lights kicks off earlier this year. It will take place at 5:45 p.m. this Saturday. The parade winds through downtown East Peoria along Washington Street and features about 30 lights floats.
2. The nearly 3-mile parade features floats constructed of Christmas lights and many have been refurbished this year. Floats include a steam train, a fire truck, Chinese dragon, dinosaur, a replica of the U.S.S. Enterprise star ship, Frosty the Snowman and a lighted version of the Budweiser Clydesdales.
3. Santa Claus! Who doesn’t want to get a glimpse of the jolly man in the red suit? He always rides in the parade and can be seen at the very end. Also riding in the parade is the Festival of Lights queen.
Why you should attend
Volunteers work on getting the Festival of Lights floats ready all year long. This is a free event that is a long-standing tradition in the community. It is offered to give families something to do together for the holidays.
