  • The Morton Junior High seventh-grade boys basketball team lost its season opener, 45-32, Nov. 5 to Lincoln.
    Jake Martin and Zach Byrne had nine points apiece for the Junior Potters, who lost the second quarter, 17-1.
    Three days later, MJHS rebounded to thump Metamora, 39-15, as Tommy Kuhl had a team-high 11 points.
    Evan Heal and Alec Bazzetta had six points apiece for the Junior Potters, who were up 15-3 at halftime.
    Morton could not overcome a 17-1 first-period deficit in a 44-35 loss to Normal Parkside.
    Kuhl led the Junior Potters with 11 points, while Byrne chipped in eight.
    Martin’s 10 points Nov. 15 ignited MJHS to a 40-21 win at Dunlap Valley in which the boys dominated the Spartans, 27-6, in the second half.
    Kuhl provided eight points, and Evan Pfeifer and Vinny Massaglia had six each.
    Martin accounted for 60 percent of the Junior Potters’ scoring with 12 points Nov. 16 in a 32-20 loss to Pekin Broadmoor.
    The Bruins had the advantage in every quarter vs. Morton.
    The Junior Potters outlasted Pekin Edison Nov. 17, 39-35.
    Bazzetta topped the seventh graders with nine points, while Pfeifer had seven and Martin and Byrne six apiece.
    MJHS outscored East Peoria by a combined 30-9 in the first and third periods in a 51-33 victory.
    Martin sprang for a season-high 14 points.
    Isaac Ingold and Heal collected seven points and Byrne six.
