Richard M. “Shorty” Parcel, 79, of Morton, died at 11:40 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012, at his home.
Born June 15, 1933, in Jasper County to Homer and Doris (Snearly) Parcel, he married Marilyn Blankenbeker on July 1, 1956, in Martinsville. She survives.
Also surviving is one son, Tim (Cindy) Parcel of Elgin; one daughter, Bonnie (Glen) Parrott of Morton; one grandson; three granddaughters; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Jerry (Cathy) Parcel of Martinsville; and one sister, Sharon (Laymon) Davison of Marshall.
He was an Army veteran, serving from 1953 to 1955.
He worked at Caterpillar Inc. for 42 years, retiring in 1996 as a machinist.
He was a member of Grace Church in Morton.
Cremation will be accorded. A memorial service was held Saturday at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton, with the Rev. Doug Habegger officiating. Visitation was Saturday at the funeral home.
