Morton will try to recapture some of its past magic at the Pekin Insurance Holiday Tournament.
The Potter boys basketball team has won 16 trophies playing every year in the event since 1978.
Morton, which is playing for the 35th time in the 48-year-old tournament, is 67-57 all-time at Pekin.
The Potters open this year’s version at 8 p.m. Thursday against No. 2-seed Rockford Boylan.
The teams are quite familiar with one another.
They will meet for the sixth time (2006, ’08-12) in the last seven seasons at Dawson Hawkins Gymnasium. The Titans hold a 3-2 edge so far in that span.
Up next, at 2:15 p.m. Friday, will be either Chicago Mt. Carmel or LaSalle-Peru.
The Potters will play again Friday before their four-game tournament slate concludes Saturday.
Morton placed third a year ago, losing only to eventual champion Plainfield East.
Three of the top-four seeds at Pekin are from the Mid-Illini Conference. Washington is the top seed, Pekin is third and Limestone is No. 4.
