Verna J. Barth, 90, of Morton, died at 11:04 a.m. Monday, Dec. 24, 2012, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Born Sept. 19, 1922, in Buffalo, Okla., to Archie and Ellen (Arney) Roberts, she married John A. Barth on Oct. 14, 1950, in El Paso. He preceded her in death on June 9, 1989.
Surviving are two sons, Bob Barth of Morton and Jim (Nancy) Barth of Williamsburg, Va.; one daughter, Jane Jelks of Peoria; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Walter Roberts of Woodward, Okla.; and three sisters, Corinne Beck of Dallas, Texas, Orma Lee (Dexter) Cotter of Hudson, Kan., and Avis Roberts of Tulsa, Okla.
She was a World War II Navy veteran, serving with the Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service.
She graduated from Northwestern State University in Alva, Okla., and received her Masters in Education from Bradley University in 1974.
She worked as an elementary school teacher in East Peoria for 23 years, retiring in 1988 from East Peoria School District 86 at Woodrow Wilson Elementary School.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Morton.
A graveside service was Friday at the Morton Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery, with the senior minister of First Baptist Church of Morton officiating. There will be no visitation.
