Illinois Central College offers an ACT review course as well as an optional writing review to prepare students for the National ACT Exam. The ACT exam is taken by every Illinois high school junior and is used as a “college-entrance exam” for most colleges.
The review course consists of four 3-hour sessions and an optional 2-hour writing review. These sessions meet in Hickory Hall at the ICC North Campus, 5407 N. University, Peoria.
Topics covered include test-taking strategies and techniques as well as a review of English, math, science, and reading materials similar to that covered by the exam. Participants also take short practice tests in all subject areas.
All sessions are 6 – 9 p.m. Cost for the course is $80 (includes textbook and classroom materials).
An optional writing review offers students specialized preparation for the optional ACT Writing test. The review session covers basic writing skills as well as techniques for responding to the writing prompts on the test.
This session is 6 – 8 p.m. and costs $27 (includes student guide and classroom materials).
The next review session will be Jan. 24, 29 and 31 and Feb. 5. The optional writing review is set for Feb. 7.
To register or for more details on the upcoming review session, phone 690-6900 or go online to www.icc.edu/actreview. Registration for the national ACT exam is done separately.
The ACT review is offered by Illinois Central College youth programs.
