  • Roslyn J. “Roz” Gerlach, 81, of Morton, died at 1:50 a.m. Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria.
     
    She was born June 22, 1931, in Gridley, Ill., to L.D. and Rose (Jones) Kahle. She married James Gerlach on Aug. 8, 1959, in Bloomington, Ill.
     
    Surviving are her husband of Morton; one brother, John Kahle of Forest; three sisters-in-law; 14 nieces and nephews and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.
     
    She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Glenn, Paul and Ralph; one sister, Bernice McCain; one brother-in-law; one sister-in-law; one niece and one nephew.
     
    Roz received both a B.S. in Commerce and a Masters in Education from the University of Illinois. She was a life member of the University of Illinois Alumni Association and an avid supporter and fan of the Fighting Illini sports teams.
     
    She began her teaching career in Altamont, Ill., where she taught business courses for 2 ½ years. She then taught business courses at East Peoria Community High School for 25 years. She was a life-time member of the Illinois Retired Teachers Association.
     
    Roz and her husband enjoyed traveling, including trips to Australia, New Zealand, the British Isles, Europe and the Caribbean, as well as visits to all 50 states.
     
    She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church of Morton.
     
    Services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at Ludwig Mortuary in Morton, with Pastor Jeff Anderson officiating. Visitation was from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20 and one hour prior to services on Monday, both at the mortuary. Burial will be in Lexington Cemetery in Lexington, Ill.
     
    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the scholarship fund of the Illini Club of McLean County, P.O. Box 5113, Bloomington, IL 61702-5113; the Morton Public Library, 315 West Pershing, Morton, IL 61550 or Bethel Lutheran Church, 425 N. Missouri Ave., Morton, IL 61550.
