A Washington man was charged Sunday with aggravated domestic battery for allegedly choking his girlfriend and leaving her face bruised and bloodied.
Charles Martin, 46, of 403 E. Holland St., remained held Monday on $25,000 pending a Feb. 21 preliminary hearing.
His alleged victim summoned police to that address Sunday after she escaped from the bedroom where Martin had restrained her during an argument, according to court records. She said Martin left the home when she called 911.
Martin had choked her with his arm and put his hand over her mouth, preventing her from breathing, she said. Police found dried blood on her face and injuries around her mouth, nose and eyes. Martin later said he put his hand over her mouth “only to quiet her,” the records said.
