Metamora, Limestone and Pekin all passed the Potters after they tied Canton for sixth place Saturday in the league tournament at East Peoria.

At 4-2, Morton had a better record than all of those teams, but each outscored the Potters’ 57 points in the seven-team finale.

Combining dual victories with tournament standing, Morton had 6.25 points for the season.

Metamora (2-4) wound up with 9.5 total points. The Redbirds tallied 110 points with two champions.

Limestone (3-3) was fourth with 7.5 points in 2012-13 and Pekin (1-5) fifth with seven.

Gabe Pleasants and Kartal Bakirdan were runners-up for head coach Ed Henderson’s Potters.

In 138 pounds, Pleasants used a second-period pin of Limestone’s Nathan Elmore to reach the final.

Pleasants (21-7) lost to Washington’s Colton Gladwell, Illinois Matmen’s second-ranked wrestler, in the title bout.

Bakirdan upended Austin Kidd of Canton with a pin at 3:57 in the 160 quarterfinals, then pinned Washington’s Anthony DeMito at 4:37.

Tony Hall of East Peoria topped Bakirdan (16-19) for the championship.

Three Morton contestants — Jace Glascock, Drew Howell and Joe Geiger — placed fourth.

Howell earned a top-four position in 132 with a consolation pin of Limestone’s Wyatt Carey.

Geiger (20-11) drubbed David Heyden of Limestone in a 13-2 major decision for his 195 victory.

Brock Kelley also recorded a win for the Potters in Allison Gymnasium.

Washington won its fourth consecutive conference championship in perfect fashion with 226.5 points in the tournament after a 6-0 dual season.

East Peoria was second for the third year in a row.

Postseason: Morton plays host to a nine-team Class 2A regional Saturday. Action begins at 9 a.m.

The top-three individuals in each weight class will advance to the Feb. 8-9 Rochelle Sectional.

The first-place team will proceed to the Feb. 19 Rochelle Dual Team Sectional.
