Four Morton wrestlers won crucial matches Saturday.

The quartet of Potters prevailed in third-place contests at the Class 2A Morton Regional to secure spots at the Rochelle Sectional.

Senior Joe Geiger, junior Josh Diggs, sophomore Gabe Pleasants and freshman Jace Glascock advanced to the second stage of the Illinois High School Association postseason.

Geiger (23-10) defeated Keith King of Richwoods, a 29-match winner, 6-5 in 195 pounds to take third place.

Diggs (10-15) used a pin of East Peoria’s Calvin Bristol at the 2:58 mark to move forward in the 285 division.

A 9-5 decision over Central’s Brandon Gregory in the 138 bout for third sent Pleasants (24-8) to the sectional.

Glascock (9-18) held off Drew Burgess of Limestone, 6-4, to extend his season.

As a team, Ed Henderson-guided Morton finished sixth out of nine with 70 points.

The Potters outscored Mid-Illini Conference rivals Limestone and Canton.

Just missing sectional berths were Morton’s Brandon Bland (106) and Kartal Bakirdan (160), both of whom placed fourth.

East Peoria ended Washington’s three-year regional title streak by outpaing the Panthers, 188.5-168.5

Sectional: The action begins at 4:30 p.m. Friday in Rochelle.

Session II occurs at 10 a.m. Saturday, with Session III to follow at 2 p.m.

Prior to the sectional starting, there will be a grand march at 4:05 p.m. for all sectional participants.

The top-four individuals in each weight class advance to the 2A state final Feb. 14-16 at Assembly Hall in Champaign.
