The Morton girls basketball team’s Mid-Illini Conference winning streak reached 33 games Friday.
The Potters’ overall victory string reached 13 with a 68-39 triumph at East Peoria on the Raiders’ Senior Night.
Morton (25-4, 14-0) led only 25-20 at halftime before scoring 27 third-quarter points to put away East Peoria.
Chandler Ryan had a game-high 16 points connecting on three 3-pointers for the Potters. She had 10 in the third.
Sarah Livingston and Kate Byrne also were in double figures for the visitors with 14 and 10 points, respectively.
After trailing 13-10 after one quarter, Morton outscored the Raiders 58-26 the rest of the way.
The Potters have won the league title three consecutive years and four out of the last five.
This is just the second time in the 31 seasons of M-I girls basketball that Morton has claimed three straight championships. The other three-peat was from 1983-85.
The Potters’ average margin of victory in the 2012-13 conference campaign was 20.7 points per game.
Kylie Giebelhausen was the East Peoria (12-15, 5-9) leader with 10 points.
Postseason: No. 1 seed Morton played fourth-seeded Washington Tuesday in the Class 3A Bloomington Central Catholic Regional semifinals.
The winner advanced to the regional final, which will occur at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
The host Saints or Normal University will be the opponent.
The BCC Regional champion meets the Prairie Central Regional winner at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the semifinals of the Washington Sectional.
