Robert Flairty

64, of Pekin

Robert L. Flairty, 64, of Pekin, passed away at 12:41 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013 at Pekin Hospital Emergency Room.

Born Aug. 10, 1948, in Pekin to James W. and Elizabeth Rose Crooks Flairty, Jr., he married Deborah L. "Debbie" Roth on Aug. 8, 1988, in Pekin. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, A. Kip (Jane) Patterson of Manito and Klint R. (Tiffanie) Flairty of Pekin; two daughters, Amber Robertson and Karmen N. (Ryan) Mayberry, both of Pekin; six grandchildren, Shawn "Petey" Mayberry, Sam Mayberry, Sidney Mayberry, Jaxson Flairty, Kylie Patterson and Ryan Patterson; one sister, Phyllis J. (Garry) Rendleman of Peoria; and one brother, James L. (Kelly) Flairty of Pekin. Bob was also looking forward to the birth of his seventh grandchild, Elise Flairty.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sons, Brent Lee Flairty and Shawn Christan Robertson.

He attended Southeast Missouri State College in Cape Girardeau.

Bob worked as a machine operator in the fence department for Keystone Steel & Wire Company in Bartonville for 41 years, retiring in 2008. He also was a retired member of the Laborer's Local 231 in Pekin.

Robert was a member of the Pekin Moose Family Center 916 in Pekin, where he enjoyed playing trivia on Monday nights. He also played in the Peoria Old-timers Softball league.

Bob attended all of his children's and grandchildren's activities and was considered 'Grandpa Bob' not to just his own family, but to everyone else there as well. He was a huge sports fan and a die-hard Chicago Cubs baseball fan.

Robert was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Pekin.

His funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
