Based on recent history, the Morton football team has a chance to accomplish something it has not done since 2005.
The Potters could win both of their non-conference games, which, starting this year, are in weeks one and two.
Morton begins at Normal U-High Aug. 27 and follows that with its home opener at Carper Field the following Friday against Galesburg. Both are new additions to the schedule.
In the last five years, U-High is 18-30 (.375) with two playoff appearances, while Galesburg is 16-29 (.356) with zero postseason berths.
The Potters, under first-year head coach Jason Thiry, have an opportunity for early momentum in the Mid-Illini Conference portion as well.
In the first three M-I contests, only Dunlap was a playoff qualifier a season ago.
Of course, Morton will not overlook any foe in pursuit of its first postseason bid since '07.
