The Morton Chamber of Commerce offers a wide variety of programs that spark many interests.

The chamber’s Women In Business program, beginning Thursday, offers six sessions that range in topics from heart health to social media.

“We have a great committee that has put together the topics. Last year was awesome. Women enjoyed coming and got to build personal connections with others,” said Allison Vershaw, program director for the Morton Chamber of Commerce.

Vershaw said the Women In Business committee is made of such a different array of women that it was easy to come up with a list of topics.

“We have a banker, a chiropractor, a farmer’s wife. We’re all women and we have the same issues,” Vershaw said.

The sessions are $25 each, which includes breakfast, or $120 for all six.

The sessions are hosted at the Best Western Ashland house from 7-8:30 a.m.

“All working women will learn something and build relationships,” Vershaw said of the sessions.

Kim Uhlig, Morton Chamber business development director, said the Leadership Morton program, which began Jan. 11, is going well.

The program has 18 registered participants who have had four sessions so far.

“We are truly teaching leadership skills at each session,” Uhlig said. “We discuss leadership skills and how to apply them to a business.”

The program is based off the text, “Lincoln on Leadership-Executive Strategies.”

Each chapter or sub chapter is discussed at a session with a  speaker.

Uhlig said each class comes up with a project to do. Last year, the Leadership Morton class decided to work on getting bike trails throughout the community.

“They set up the association and worked hand-in-hand with the village to roll out the project at graduation,” Uhlig said.

“The  project could be something that they partner with village or a not-for-profit or even Pumpkin Festival. It would be a project to benefit the community.”

Uhlig said she is very pleased with the second class of Leadership Morton.
