Although Rob Parn did not end up going to college and majoring in graphic design as he planned, he managed to have a successful career in the trade and recently opened his own Morton-based business.
Parn, who worked for R&T Specialty Inc. for two years, Vital Signs Inc. for nine years and Pioneer Signs and Lighting Inc.
for five, took the experience he gained and opened Elite Signs and Graphics Aug. 2.
“I have always had some artistic ability,” he said. “After I graduated from high school, I was hired by R&T Specialty Inc. to work in their art department and was basically doing what I wanted to go to school for. I got into doing the sign part and it just kind of took off from there.”
Parn graduated from Morton High School in 1994.
After being open for only two weeks, Parn said business has been “OK” and is picking up. Some of the customer base he has picked up over the years in the business followed him to his new signs and graphics company.
Elite Signs & Graphics customers are offered services including signs, vehicle lettering, banners and automobile magnets and decals.
Parn provides services for locally-based companies such as Millennia Professional Services, Truck Centers’ Body Shop and Kitchen Cooked Potato Chips.
Due to the current unstable economy and the uncertainties that come with being a business owner, Parn said he was a little nervous about opening the business located at 931 Detroit Court. To his knowledge, it is the only business to provide such services in Morton.
His focus on customer service keeps businesses coming back, he said.
“I strive to give customers the best quality work at the most reasonable price,” Parn said. “I enjoy the whole process from the initial layout to the finished product and when a customer sees the product for the first time.”
