From Morton's very own ... Jim Mattson:
As part of the Annual American Diabetes Association Kiss the Pig event the Mattson family is hosting a spaghetti dinner from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Morton. The money raised will go to the campaign to have WHOI-WEEK sportscaster Jim Mattson Kiss the Pig as the ADA's big June dinner event.
Every year 3 or 4 candidates are chosen to raise money for diabetes research, sending kids to camp, etc. The candidate who raises the most money gets the "honor" to kiss the pig.
Since 1921, insulin has played a major role in the treatment of diabetes for millions of people who suffer from this disease. Initially, insulin was derived from the pancreas of a pig. Although insulin can now be derived from other sources, we continue to recognize the historical signifigance of the pig.
Help Jim Mattson Kiss a Pig and have a spaghetti supper. Most of all, help diabetes research and send kids with diabetes to summer camps.
