Mary Lou Hoeft, 77, of Delavan, passed away at 7:40 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, 2016, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

She was born Feb. 17, 1939, in San Jose to William and Ruby Canada Fairis. She married James Oscar Hoeft Sept. 14, 1958, at the San Jose Methodist Church, and he passed away June 17, 2003.

Surviving are two sons, Michael James Hoeft of Delavan and Daniel Dean (Barbara) Hoeft of New Lenox; five grandchildren, Steven (Jordan), Eric (Jayne), David, Mark and Lauren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, John (Judy) Fairis; and two sisters, Kate Baugher and Karen (Claude) Crawshaw.

Mary graduated as valedictorian from San Jose High School in 1957.

She worked from graduation to her marriage as the private secretary to the Illinois Secretary of State in Springfield. She and her husband farmed their entire married life in rural Delavan.

She was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in San Jose, where she was actively involved. She was past president of Tazewell County Farm Bureau, past president of Tazewell County Health Board, past member of Tazewell County Zoning Board of Appeals, and was active in many community organizations.

A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 14, at Green Hill Cemetery in San Jose. There will be no visitation.

Davis-Oswald Funeral Home in Delavan is in charge of arrangements.
