Tazewell Teen Initiative announced The Community Guide to Understanding Marijuana on Aug. 30. The presentation will take place at Central Junior High School, 601 Taylor St., East Peoria from 7-9 p.m.

Chris Halsor, former Colorado Traffic Safety Resource Prosecutor, 14-year veteran prosecutor and founder of Understanding Legal Marijuana, LLC., created this presentation to provide education to policy makers, business owners, community members and parents the necessary foundations and information to make informed decisions regarding medical and recreational marijuana.

“Tazewell Teen Initiative has been monitoring marijuana use by teens through the Illinois Youth Survey. More teens are reporting marijuana use within the last 30 days,” said Mike Eeten, chairman of Tazewell Teen Initiative. “The goal of the presentation is to provide a clear understanding of marijuana to youth, parents, policy makers and community members.”

The press release states: Legal marijuana is more complicated than large tax revenues and the ability to buy an ounce of pot. Marijuana advocates have created very effective campaigns and the overall public attitudes about marijuana are changing. The legalization of medical marijuana is on the verge of a tipping point and will likely spread world-wide within the next 10-15 years. Instituting and implementing legalization for a drug that has been unlawful for decades — and remains so at the federal level — is more complicated than the headlines would have you believe.
