PEORIA — Officially, there appears to be no imminent date for Portillo's to establish a Chicago-style fast-food restaurant in the Peoria area. But Indeed.com suggests otherwise.

A listing on the job-search website indicates Portillo's intends to open a Peoria location next year. The listing advertises openings for all levels of restaurant management for an unnamed Peoria site.

"Portillo's is coming to Peoria, IL in 2018!" the job notice is headlined. It was posted online Tuesday.

Portillo's official stance appeared to be noncommittal.

"We continue to explore expansion throughout the Midwest, but we have no new locations to share at this time," Nick Scarpino, Portillo's vice president of public relations and marketing, said in a statement.

Peoria Assistant City Manager Chris Setti had no comment.

A Portillo's representative mentioned outlets soon to open in suburban Indianapolis and Minneapolis-St. Paul. Those locations are included with Peoria in the Indeed.com listings.

The Peoria listing states applicants must have at least two to three years of quick-service restaurant-management experience. Salaries range from $42,000 to $80,000 annually, based on experience.

The chain is famous for its Chicago-style hot dogs, Italian beef and Italian sausage sandwiches.

A Portillo's restaurant is scheduled to open Aug. 15 in Normal. Portillo’s has about 50 locations in Arizona, California, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota and Wisconsin.

When ground was broken in April for the Normal Portillo's, company CEO Keith Kinsey said expansion to Peoria was possible. The Moline native has family who attended Bradley University and worked for Caterpillar Inc. in Peoria.

"I love Peoria," Kinsey said then. "It's definitely a place we want to be. It's just finding the right spot there.

“It’s a great place. Something could come up tomorrow, but right now, there’s nothing on the docket.”
