MORTON — A Morton firefighter was killed late Thursday in a DUI wreck, police said.
At 11:53 p.m., Morton police were called to the area of Mossy Trail and Timber Creek Trail after a vehicle hit a parked vehicle. Officers arrived to find an unconscious man lying in the roadway near the crash, police said.
He had been a front-seat passenger before being ejected from the vehicle, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The Tazewell County Coroner's Office identified the man as Joshua L. Greene, 42, of Morton. An autopsy is pending.
A post Friday on the Morton Fire Department's Facebook page from Chief Joe Kelley said that Greene had been a paid-on-call member of the department since March of 2000.
The driver, Glen T. Abney, 52, of Morton was transported with injuries to UnityPoint Health-Methodist in Peoria, where he was in fair condition Friday morning. He was cited for failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident, DUI and aggravated DUI.
Morton police continue to investigate the wreck, along with the Tazewell County Sheriff's Office.
