A Bloomington man was sentenced Friday to four years in prison for an attempted armed robbery in East Peoria in which he cut his intended victim with a knife.

Michael Foster, 25, pleaded guilty but mentally ill to that charge after those of home invasion and aggravated battery were dismissed. His judge found his mental disorders did not prevent him from defending against his charges.

Armed with a steak knife, Foster burst into a young man’s trailer court home last June 27 and demanded money he said was his. The man and his two brothers managed to push Foster back out the door during a struggle in which Foster cut the man in the forehead.

Foster drove away but was arrested a short time later at a Metamora restaurant.
