The meet came down to the last event, and the Pekin co-op boys swimming and diving team fell just short.
But it was a good day otherwise Saturday for the Dragons, who won eight of 12 events in a tri-meet against visiting Normal West and Lincoln.
West won with 226 points. Pekin finished second with 223 and Lincoln had 84.
West’s 400 freestyle relay team of Tyler Ahrens, Reid Peterson, Jackson Ahrens and Conner Eicher won in 3:40.90 in the final event of the meet. Pekin’s Brady Hild, Hunter Hawkins, Sam Dunn and Oliver Garrett were second in 3:50.67.
Alex Kula and Jack Marlatt each won a pair of individual events for the Dragons.
Kula won the 200 freestyle (1:52.10) and 500 freestyle (5:10.97). Kula touched out runner-up Jackson Ahrens from West (5:11.54) in the 500 freestyle.
Marlatt won the 50 freestyle (:22.30) and 100 breaststroke (1:05.57).
Pekin’s Adam Peterson won the 200 IM (2:06.51), Tyler Cummins won the 100 freestyle (:55.14), and the other two Dragons wins came in relays.
Marlatt, Peterson, Kula and Garrett won the 200 medley relay (1:45.41) and Marlatt, Dunn, Kula and Peterson won the 200 freestyle relay (1:35.05).
Cummins (:24.10) and Garrett (:24.46) were second and third in the 50 freestyle behind Marlatt.
Peterson (:55.93), Isaac Watson of Pekin (1:05.01) and Dunn (1:05.69) were second, third and fourth in the 100 butterfly behind West’s Ben Rutledge (:55.00).
Garrett was second in the 100 backstroke (1:03.29) behind West’s Kyle Pish (1:00.31).
Hild was third in the 200 freestyle (2:12.87), Hawkins was third in the 500 freestyle (5:47.90) and Pekin diver Jayson Presley was third (152.30 points).
Pekin’s Matthew Peterson was fourth in the 500 freestyle (6:07.59) and Hild was fourth in the 100 backstroke (1:04.91).
Hawkins, Traeton Mitchell, Lyle Leichtenberg and Cummins were third in the 200 freestyle relay (1:43.77).
Pekin will play host to the Mid-Illini Invitational at 10 a.m. Saturday.
