A Creve Coeur man is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday on a charge he set his house on fire.

Firefighters extinguished flames that caused minor damage to the exterior of a small one-story house at 141 Oklawn Circle after they were called at about 6 p.m. Monday. Flames were found on three sides of the structure but apparently caused no injuries.

During the firefight, they encountered Austin Garcia, 28, who made statements that he started the fire, said village Police Chief Dale King. Garcia then fled the scene. An investigation determined the fire had been deliberately set, King said.

Police arrived to find Garcia inside the residence along with two other persons, who had been inside the house during the fire, King said.

Garcia was booked into Tazewell County’s jail on a charge of aggravated arson, a Class X felony. A formal charge will be filed at Garcia’s bonding court appearance.
