Pekin Marine Corps League Fundraiser

The Women’s Association of the Pekin Marine Corps League is hosting a Texas Roadhouse Gift Card Fundraiser. The group receives 10% of the total sales of gift cards. Every Wed. at 274 Derby St., from 5 to 7 p.m. Menu: 1/4-pound hamburger - $3; 1/2-pound hamburger - $5; 1/4-pound cheeseburger - $3.25; 1/2-pound cheeseburger - $5.25; homemade tenderloin - $6; chicken strips with fries - $6. Culver’s Night for Miller Center

Join us for a fundraiser Wednesday, May 23, from 5-8 p.m. Come have dinner at Culver’s in Pekin. Culver’s Night will benefit the Miller Center Transportation Service.

Convert Old Videos to DVD

At 6:30 p.m., May 23, for the price of a single DVD, you can convert Grandma’s old home movies on video to a playable DVD! Be the hit of the family gathering when you watch these old treasures. Formats we can teach you to convert: VHS, (mini) VHS-C MiniDV, Video8, Hi8, and Digital8 to DVD. Software use is free and available in the Pekin Public Library’s Memory Lab during regular library hours. Hands On! Makerspace

Join us at 6 p.m., May 24 for a MakerSpace for families to come together to use materials to develop creative projects. Plant and Flower Swap

Master Gardener Beth Wegner will facilitate a plant swap 6 p.m., May 24 in the library’s garden!  Bring any food or flower plants to share, and take home something new!  Participants should bring at least one perennial 

plant start and/or fruit or vegetable start.  We’ll have extras to share as well. Rain site will be in the library Community Room.

The Bachelors and Bachelorettes Square Dance Club will be having a dance on May 24 from 7to 9:30 p.m. at the Miller Center, 551 S. 14th St. in Pekin. The caller will be Curt Braffet. Genealogy: Local History Collection

The Pekin Public Library’s Local History Room contains a myriad of sources to assist you in searching for ancestors who lived in the Pekin and surrounding areas. At 9:30 a.m., May 26, We will give you a tour of the collection and show you how to use the obituary database and microfilm machines to search newspaper resources. International Music, Wine and Craft Beer Festival

Mackinaw Valley Vineyard & Winery will have an International Music, Wine and Craft Beer Festival May 26 and 27, Saturday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Sunday, noon to 6 p.m. Sample over 50 wines and 50 craft beers available for tasting and purchase. The Lions Club will hostthe food concessions, Ropp Jersey Cheese will offer artisan cheese sampling and Hometown Community Banks, is the glassware sponsor. Local bands and solo artists will entertain Saturday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Stevil Dan; 3-6:30 p.m. Greg Williams; 7-11 p.m. Highway J.

Sunday music schedule: noon to 3 p.m. Barry Cloyd; 3 to 6 p.m. Aileeah Colgan Acoustic duo. Festival admission is $10 per person and includes a souvenir tasting glass and 5 tasting tickets for ages 21 and over, $5 per person admission ages 13-20, age 12 and under free. Tremont Memorial Day Ceremony

Tremont American Legion Post #1236 will conduct a Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 28, at 11 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial in Tremont Park located on state route 9 in Tremont. Anyone wanting to honor our veterans is welcome to attend. For information call Jim Grimm at 309-242- 6472.

 

Delavan-Green Valley

Delavan-Green Valley American Legion Post 382 will conduct a Memorial Day ceremony May 28 at 11 a.m. at the Former National Guard Armory, 206 E. 3rd St., Delavan. “Avenue of Flags” will be displayed at Prairie Rest Cemetery and downtown Delavan (weather permitting). Delavan-Green Valley American Legion Post 382 will be serving breakfast at 118 E. 3rd St., Delavan, from 6:30-10 a.m., for a reasonable fee.

Local Cemetery ceremonies start at 9 a.m. There will be a ceremony at the Green Valley Cemetery and a dedication ceremony at the Green Valley Veteran’s Memorial. The Green Valley Veteran’s Memorial ceremony will be at 9:15 a.m. (note change in time). As part of that ceremony, the Green Valley Fire Dept. Honor Guard will do a flag raising and there will be a dedication of newly installed veteran bricks. Justin Schmidt, former U.S. Army chaplain, will speak. The Delavan-Green Valley American Legion Post 382 will do a gun salute and Taps. There will also be ceremonies at St. Mary’s Cemetery and Prairie Rest Cemetery.

Pekin Farmers Market

After a few years absence, the City of Pekin is proud to announce the Pekin Farmers Market will be returning to historic downtown Pekin. Opening Day at the new location at 326 Court St. (the grassy lot next to Pekin Times) is scheduled for May 30. Visitors and residents can expect a wide selection of traditional fresh fruits and vegetables, flowers, and handmade goods available for purchase. The market will feature live music, food trucks, and a rotation of special guests each week throughout the summer every Wednesday from 11 a.m.– 2 p.m.
