The eastern areas of Morton were once again the targets of a slew of vehicle burglaries Tuesday night and into Wednesday, Morton Police Chief Nick Graff said.
The Morton Police Department received 12 calls and recorded nine reports of vehicles that were burglarized in residential subdivisions in Morton Tuesday.
The burglaries took place from 8 a.m. Tuesday to 6:30 a.m. Wednesday. Vehicles left unlocked were the only ones burglarized.
Burglaries occurred on the 900 block of E. Marshal, the 1000 block of Johnson, the 100 block of Montana, the 900 block of Monroe, the 100 block of Jay and the 100 block of Sunset.
No suspects have been identified in the vehicle burglaries.
Graff said vehicle burglaries have become the "method of choice" for criminals looking for cash.
"It's really rampant, now," he said. "It's not unique to Morton — it's everywhere."
Graff maintains the best way for residents to avoid becoming a victim of a vehicle burglary is to keep their cars locked. Unlocked vehicles are being targeted by the individual(s) responsible for the vehicle burglaries.
