The former Morton Fire Department volunteer firefighter who was arrested for arson in September for allegedly starting four fires has admitted to causing a fifth fire that was being investigated by the Morton Police Department, the Morton Fire Department and Illinois State Fire Marshal's Office.

Timothy J. Perry, 34, of 1408 S. Second in Morton, reportedly confessed to police in the presence of an attorney to causing a fire at an unoccupied home at 1310 S. Second on July 31.

The fire was deemed an arson but Perry was not initially considered a suspect.

Perry was arrested on four counts of arson after turning himself in at the Morton Police Department in September. Perry admitted to his involvement in a fire that occurred at the Antique Mall, 1901 N. Morton Ave. in Morton Sept. 6, a vehicle fire at Jadewood and Second July 12, a dumpster fire at Colony South apartments July 16 and another vehicle fire at 2301 S. Main Aug. 2.

The fire that occurred at about midnight July 31 at the 1310 S. Second house caused $70,000 in damage. The property has been listed for sale since last spring.
