Illinois State Police Master Sgt. David Kraft of Morton retired from the force July 31.

Kraft began his law enforcement career June 17, 1985, when he entered the Illinois State Police Training Academy. Upon graduation, Kraft was assigned to District 9 in Springfield. In 1987, Kraft was appointed as District 9 canine officer. In 1988, he transferred to the Illinois State Police Academy and assumed the duties of the statewide canine section supervisor and was promoted to the rank of sergeant.

In 1995, Kraft transferred to District 08 in Peoria where he performed various duties including shift sergeant, range officer, court officer, evidence officer and fleet officer.

In 2008, Kraft was appointed the position of District 8 administrative officer and was promoted to master sergeant.
