An 80-year-old Morton woman was arrested April 22 for driving under the influence of alcohol after she crashed into a tree in Morton according to a Morton Police Department arrest report.
At about 3:30 p.m., Mary Kidd, of 141 Sunset, was driving eastbound on Jefferson Street when she suddenly swerved onto the sidewalk, nearly striking a wood chipper at the corner of Illinois and Jefferson.
Her vehicle came to a stop after colliding with a tree.
When police arrived, they observed witnesses talking to Kidd, who was reportedly disoriented according to a Morton Police Department arrest report.
She reportedly was unable to maintain her balance after the incident. She held on to a car as well as grabbed a Morton firefighter's shirt for balance.
Officers advised Kidd that she was bleeding, but she was unable to understand what they were telling her the report stated.
Kidd was transported to OSF Saint Francis hospital where a blood sample was taken.
"I am drunk," Kidd told police.
