The Morton Police Department announced its upcoming late-night patrol efforts for the period leading up to Labor Day weekend.

The intensified patrol efforts will focus on alcohol-related violations and seat belt violators, which are at their highest rates between 9 p.m. and 3 a.m. The patrols will run through Sept. 6 and will consist of more than 40 hours of hire-back enforcement in an effort to diminish the effects of these potential deadly violations.

The Labor Day campaign follows a successful August campaign where five motorists were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol with an average blood alcohol content that exceeded .18 percent.

The hire-back patrols are funded by federal traffic safety funds through the Illinois Department of Transportation’s Division of Traffic Safety.
