The Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System (ILEAS) awarded $20,502 to the Morton Police Department for ruggedized computers mounted in patrol cars. These state-of-the-art computers provide the ability to access state and national crime file and intelligence databases and communicate digitally with other law-enforcement agencies statewide.

As part of this grant program, ILEAS has provided $3,075,300 to 205 law enforcement agencies — both police and sheriffs — throughout Illinois for 450 ruggedized squad car computers. These funds came from Federal Homeland Security Grants through the Illinois Terrorism Task Force. In today's economic environment, the $6,834 cost of each of these devices is outside the financial means of many agencies.

ILEAS is an inter-governmental coalition representing more than 900 local law enforcement agencies and over 95% of all sworn officers in Illinois. ILEAS coordinates significant requests for mutual aid, provides grants and coordinates other law enforcement related programs.

The mission of ILEAS is to meet the needs of law enforcement throughout Illinois in matters of mutual aid, emergency response and the combining of resources for public safety. More about ILEAS and the Illinois Terrorism Task Force can be found at www.ileas.org and www.ready.illinois.govlittf.
