William R. Newman, 63, of Morton died at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012, in the emergency room at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Born June 25, 1948, in Rochester, Pa., to Norwood and Winfred (Staffer) Newman, he married Bonnie Salamay on June 14, 1973, in Monaca, Pa.

Surviving are his wife, Bonnie Newman of Morton; one son, Brian (Carrie) Newman of Morton; one daughter, Kelly (Christopher) Jones of Anderson, S.C.; two grandchildren and one brother, Christopher (Kim) Newman of New Brighton, Pa.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

He was employed with the Alpha Bolt Co. in Rochester, Mich., retiring in 2002 as a quality control manager.

He was a member of Advent Lutheran Church in Morton and the Handyman Club of America.

Cremation will be accorded. A memorial service will be at 6 p.m. Friday at Advent Lutheran Church in Morton, with the Rev. Dennis O’Brien officiating. There will be no visitation.

Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton is handling arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Advent Lutheran Church, 1211 S. Main St., Morton, IL 61550.
