A letter from Illinois State Treasurer Dan Rutherford:
I am encouraging residents in Tazewell County to attend one of our three Cash Dash events to determine if the state is holding any money or unclaimed property entitled to you.

The first one is being hosted by Mayor Norm Durflinger in Morton on Wednesday, July 13 from 9:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. in the Morton Public Library at 315 W. Pershing. I will be in attendance until approximately 9:30 a.m.

The second event is being hosted by Mayor Gary Manier in Washington on Wednesday, July 13 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in Five Points at 360 N. Wilmore Road. I will be in attendance from approximately 10:00 - 10:30 a.m.

The third event is being hosted by Mayor David Mingus in East Peoria on Wednesday, July 13 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the East Peoria City Council Chambers at 100 S. Main Street. I will be in attendance from approximately 11:00 - 11:30 a.m.

People are always thrilled to find out they have money just waiting for them through Cash Dash. Please come visit me for assistance in locating your money or property.

My Unclaimed Property Division has $1.5 billion in cash, plus contents from Illinois bank safety deposit boxes that have been abandoned for at least five years. The Cash Dash program helps reunite owners with their unclaimed property. On average, the Cash Dash program returns about $80 million dollars annually to owners. It's common for people to lose track of their assets when they move or when loved ones pass away. Businesses and banks are required to turn over unclaimed accounts to the treasurer's office. Some examples of unclaimed property currently held by the treasurer's office include the following:

* Money in inactive savings and checking accounts
* Unpaid wages or commissions
* Stocks, bonds and mutual funds
* Money orders and bill overpayments
* Paid-up life insurance policies
* Safety deposit box contents

To find out if you have unclaimed property through Cash Dash, you can also visit the treasurer's website www.treasurer.il.gov and follow the Cash Dash link. The website is updated weekly to reflect new properties remitted to the office.  Additionally, our Cash Dash teams conduct regular outreach across the state, place twice-annual inserts in major newspapers and send direct mail to new single-owner claimants over $25. You can contact the Unclaimed Property Division by calling 217-785-6998 or emailing info@cashdash.net.

Hoping you'll say hello to me while I am in Tazewell County!

Sincerely,
Dan Rutherford
Illinois State Treasurer
