It is with a heavy heart that Cristy’s Tea Room will close Thursday. It is my nature to go with longevity. I went into this business hoping to see my daughter, Michele, precede me, and I was thinking beyond to her children. Part of my dream in opening this business was to be an active business participant in the Morton business community and an active volunteer.
I began my career in 1979 in banking at Morton Community Bank and worked for the following 25 years at what was Morton Federal and Bank Plus. The Honegger family, Chamler Arnett, Ed Haute and Robert Brown all believed and supported their staff in serving and volunteering in the Morton community. I was raised to believe you gave back to your community by my dad, who served in volunteer positions all of his life. I have served as a board member of the Morton Chamber of Commerce and currently a Morton Tourism Association board member.
I will continue to support the Morton Tourism Association, economic development and the Morton Chamber of Commerce in revitalizing downtown Morton, the Morton Plaza, the Field Shopping Center and supporting existing businesses and new businesses to Morton to enhance the much-needed tax base.
I want to thank my daughter, Michele, who has been at my side the last two years, seven months and one day. I could not have done this without her. I want to thank my wonderful husband who has been with me 110 percent, my youngest daughter and sons-in-law who were there to support us in so many ways.
I would love to stay and be a part of this business community, however the customer count was just not there to keep open. Please support your local businesses to keep your community vibrant and a place you want to call home.
