The Potters returned from the Quad Cities with a 2-0 non-conference victory over East Moline United Township.
“The guys passed the first test with flying colors,” MHS head coach Brian Deters said.
The Morton boys and girls cross country teams are looking forward to promising seasons after a dedicated effort in the summer.
“The team is looking real good,” MHS head coach Joel Zehr said. “A lot of guys and girls did a lot of training in the offseason. They’re ready to go.”
The Morton volleyball team is armed for another season as one of the best in the area.
Despite playing without a McGlaughlin for the first time since 2000, a strong group of returnees have the Potters positioned to contend for Mid-Illini and Class 3A regional championships.
Under first-year head coach Michelle Hahn, Morton will try for its first league crown since ’06 and its seventh regional plaque in the last eight years.
The Morton football team Friday won its first season opener since 2005.
The Potters amassed 303 rushing yards in a 32-8 victory over Normal U-High at Illinois State University’s Hancock Stadium.
“We felt real good about the way we played,” MHS head coach Jason Thiry said.
Four Morton running backs ran for more than 50 yards, led by Tristan Popadziuk’s 97 on 23 carries.

The Morton football team will have its first “Blackout Night” Sept. 17 against Pekin to benefit Easter Seals.
After a 6-1 week, the Morton Junior High softball team is 8-4 on the season.

Although the line-up will be much different, the Morton girls tennis team does not have diminished expectations for 2010.
Coming off the first sectional championship in the sport in school history, the Potters are aiming to remain at a high level after some hard work in the offseason.
With three-time defending Mid-Illini Conference champion Metamora’s depth shortened, Morton is one of the teams in the running for the title.

There are an assortment of changes this year for the Morton boys soccer team.
Not only were several key players lost to graduation, but the schedule was overhauled with changes to the Mid-Illini Conference line-up.
The Potters also have dealt with warmer-than-normal temperatures in the preseason and a large rash of injuries.
With ample experience and depth, the Morton football team is lining up for a rebound season.
“The kids are working hard, had a good summer and are starting to buy into the philosophies the coaching staff is bringing to them,” first-year MHS head coach Jason Thiry said.
An obvious objective the Potters have for 2010 is to return to the postseason for the first time since ’07. They were 7-11 under two-year head coach Trevor Lehnen.
With the opener at Normal U-High Friday, Morton has its basic ideas and concepts ready.
