PEORIA — The Illinois Deer & Turkey Expo returns to Peoria after stops in Springfield and Bloomington in recent years.

The 27th annual event, presented by Field & Stream and Outdoor Life magazines, runs July 28-30 at the Peoria Civic Center.

The move back to the Civic Center substantially increases exhibitor space from the 2016 event, which was held at the Interstate Center in Bloomington. More than 285 hunting exhibitors and outfitter booths are expected to be rented.

Billed as the state's premier consumer expo for hunting and outdoor enthusiasts, this marks the expo's third different stint in Peoria. The event began in 1990 in Decatur.

The expo features hands-on activities and a series of deer and turkey seminars from experts. Local sportsmen can enter their best deer from any season for an official score and display in the Trophy Deer Contest and Display, and participants receive a free weekend pass with entry.

Other highlights include Byron Ferguson's archery trick-shooting show, chainsaw carving demonstrations and interactive airgun, archery and bowfishing ranges.

Tickets at the door are $13 for adults and $5 for children ages 6-15. A complimentary one-year subscription to either Field & Stream or Outdoor Life magazine is included with paid admission, and all attendees will be entered into daily door-prize drawings. For discounted advance tickets, go online to deerinfo.com/illinois-deer-turkey-expo.

Event hours are 2 to 8 p.m. July 28, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. July 29 and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 30.
