With one of its best golfers sidelined, the Pekin boys golf team still finished third in the Geneseo Invitational on Saturday at Sugar Maple Golf Course.
Mason Ghidina had to withdraw after two holes because of a leg injury, but Pekin's other Mason — Mason Minkel — stepped up big time.
The freshman shot 1-over-par 73 and finished second in the individual standings.
Jacob Hill also came through for the Dragons, shooting 74 and finishing fifth. Jack Halstead also shot 74 and placed seventh in a tie-breaker.

Naperville Central (302) and Bettendorf (Iowa, 306) finished in front of Pekin.
The Pekin girls golf team finished 16th among 19 schools Saturday in the Saints Shootout at Prairie Vista Golf Course in Bloomington.
Pekin coach Chris Neville said the Dragons' Summer Dick played well on a course she'd never seen, shooting 100. Madison Raines (116), Jaden Rogers (118) and Sarah Butler (122) also competed for Pekin.
"The others (besides Dick) struggled with their putting," Neville said. "But overall it wasn't a bad day for us in a field with some pretty good teams."
Hannah McDonald (family) and Kaytlin Elliott (injury) didn't play, so all four Pekin golfers' scores counted.
SHUTOUT: The Pekin girls tennis team lost 9-0 Saturday to non-conference rival Normal West at John Moss Courts. The Dragons didn't win a set.
