Pekin and Morton marched on Tuesday in Mid-Illini Conference boys golf.

The Dragons defeated Metamora 146-160 at Metamora Fields and Morton beat Canton 144-169.

Morton (6-0) leads the conference dual match standings with Pekin (5-1) right behind with one dual left. Morton beat Pekin by 10 strokes in their dual.

Mason Ghidina (1-under-par 35), Jack Halstead (36), Mason Minkel (36), Jacob Hill (39) and Justin Taphorn (39) had counting scores for Pekin against Metamora. Cooper Theleritis (47) also competed for the Dragons (10-2).

Pekin coach Brett McGinnis said it was the first time the Dragons had five sub-40 scores in a nine-hole match this season.

“A few guys had to battle some bad breaks, like a bad shot or bad lie. For five guys to be under 40, that’s promising moving into the last week of conference play and into regionals,” he said.

Grant Hammer (34), Colton Kahler (37), Michael Mattern (43) and Jake Oderwald (46) scored for Metamora.

Tommy Kuhl (34), Isaac Ingold (35), Connor Vicary (37) and Cade Coon (38) scored for Morton against Canton. Bobby Strode (40) and Collin Roche (41) rounded out the lineup.

Adam Emery (41), Trey Passmooe (42), Cade Bugos (43) and Jackson Gray (43) scored for Canton.

Redbirds conquer Lick Creek: Metamora stayed tied atop the Mid-Illini Conference girls golf dual match standings Tuesday with a 204-246 victory over Pekin at Lick Creek.

“We didn’t play well,” said Dragons coach Chris Neville. “The greens were aerated Sunday night/Monday morning, so they weren’t in the best shape. Several holes had very tough pin placements as well. Metamora’s 204 score was respectable.”

Summer Dick (53) led Pekin (3-7, 2-4). Madison Raines (60), Sarah Butler (66) and Hannah McDonald (67) also scored for the Dragons. Jaden Rogers shot 69.

Aubrey Youngquist (50), Kara Hyde (50), Cameron Jones (51) and Haleigh Hassinger (53) scored for Metamora (5-1).

Turks sweep: The Tremont boys golf team is 14-2 after defeating Roanoke-Benson and Midwest Central on Tuesday on the inside nine at Sunset Hills in Pekin.

The Turks scored 175. Roanoke-Benson had 203 and Midwest Central had 225.

Tremont’s Tim Rice was the medalist with 6-over-par 40. Also scoring for the Turks were Alec Gilmer (44), Joel Wockley (44) and Colton Polhemus (47). Nolan Leiva and Landon Pflederer each shot 49 for Tremont.

Jordan Huschen led Roanoke-Benson with 46.

Kendal Heberer (51), Caleb Stewart (53), Caleb Uselton (57) and Brenden Garman (64) scored for Midwest Central. Caleb Richardson had 67.

Four in the 40’s: Brimfield and Williamsfield edged Illini Bluffs on Tuesday in a boys golf match on the back nine at Coyote Creek.

Brimfield, led by medalist Brady Kreiter (38), shot 182. Williamsfield had 184. Calvin Peterson led with 43.

Illini Bluffs had 191. Braden Bruninga (46), Cam Scott (47), Jack Borland (49) and Noah Jordan (49) scored for the Tigers.

“We didn’t play our best -- our putting wasn’t the greatest -- but four scores in the 40’s is better than what we’ve done previously this season,” said Illini Bluffs coach Shane Thompson.

“For us to play to our potential, we need to have two scores in the low 40’s and two scores in the mid-40’s. I’m hoping to see our scores where they should be when we host regionals at Coyote in a few weeks.”
