The Mid-Illini Conference will make league history this weekend when for the first time two of its football programs meet in the state semifinals.

Unbeaten league champion Dunlap (12-0) travels to Washington (10-2) for a 3 p.m. Class 5A semifinal, with the winner becoming the league’s first football title game participant since Metamora in 2009.

While Dunlap and Washington have two previous playoff meetings (Washington won in 2008 and ’11), this will be the 22nd playoff matchup (see fact box) of Mid-Illini programs and the first semifinal. Metamora and Washington met in a 2008 quarterfinal, the previously deepest meeting between M-I mates.

This is the fourth semifinal for Washington (1983, ‘85, 2013) and first for Dunlap, which before this season hadn’t made it past the second round. Washington won a title in ’85 and took second in ’83.
