So much for the Dunlap co-op boys swimming team’s long dual meet winning streak.
Pekin beat the visiting Eagles 96-89 Thursday, handing them their first dual meet loss since the 2009-2010 season. Dunlap had won 83 straight.
Thursday’s meet came down to the final event. Pekin swept the top two places in the 400 medley relay.
Brady Hild, Isaac Watson, Hunter Hawkins and Garrett Oliver won in 4:08.72.
Ronald Johnson, Samuel Dunn, Kyle Leichtenberg and Dillon Marlatt were second in 4:14.23.
Pekin’s Alex Kula won the 200 IM in exciting fashion, beating runner-up Bryce Young of Dunlap by only .02 seconds. Kula was clocked in 2:09.47 and Young touched the wall in 2:09.49.
Western Illinois recruit Adam Peterson of the Dragons won the 100 freestyle in :48.37, nearly six seconds ahead of runner-up Austin Graham of Dunlap.
Pekin won all three relays.
Jack Marlatt, Peterson, Kula and Tyler Cummins won the 200 medley relay in 1:46.11. Jack Marlatt, Cummins, Kula and Peterson won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:34.36.
“Our main strength is our depth,” said new Pekin coach Christine Dunn. “I’ve said all along that everybody on our team has a job to do from the boys who have been swimming for years to those swimmers who are still learning to swim with their faces in the water.”
