There are other good girls basketball teams in the Mid-Illini Conference besides state-ranked Morton.

Washington is one of them. The Panthers beat Pekin 52-38 Friday night at Hawkins Gym.

"They play an up-tempo game, move the ball around well and crash the boards," Pekin coach Becky Fulkerson said about Washington (17-5, 6-3).
Pekin (8-14, 1-8) trailed the visiting Panthers 28-11 at halftime and couldn't recover from that deficit.

"We couldn't hit a shot in the first half. Not at all," Fulkerson said. "We got the looks we wanted. We did a better job in the second half and chipped away at their lead. We played great defense in the last three minutes of the game. They made some free throws to pull away."

Jenna Taphorn and Lauren Juergens each scored 10 points for the Dragons and Maddy Cash had nine. Taylor Goss (sick) missed the game.
Sierra Sonnemaker topped Washington with 19 points and Josie Morgan had 15.
