Morton High School will have its third head football coach in the last four seasons this fall.
Trevor Lehnen resigned last week after a two-year stint directing the Potters. He was 7-11 overall and 6-8 in the Mid-Illini Conference.
“It was something I felt like I needed to do,” said Lehnen, who added stepping down will give him a chance to align his priorities differently.
Lehnen and his wife, Christine, who also is a teacher in the Morton school district, have four children.
“Having dad around a little more often could be helpful,” said Lehnen.
He was not sure in a conversation Jan. 27 if he would return to coaching in the future.
“I’ll put it in the Lord’s hands and see which way he leads me,” Lehnen said.
Lehnen appreciated his time with the prep athletes.
“I enjoyed the kids a lot. They were very hard working,” said Lehnen. “I did the best I could. I made the most of my opportunity.”
Lehnen came to Morton in 2008 from Rantoul, where he spent six seasons guiding the Eagles.
He followed 13-year head coach Hal Chiodo, whose Potter teams made 12 playoff appearances.
The next Morton football leader will try to get the program back to the postseason for the first time since ’07.
