Tracksters open season at IWU

The Morton boys and girls track and field teams geared up for their upcoming seasons Saturday at Illinois Wesleyan University.

In the well-attended Illinois Valley Central Invitational, several Potters produced noteworthy finishes about three weeks before their outdoor campaigns begin.

D.J. Zahn led the Morton boys with a trio of top-four finishes.

He won the 400 dash in a time of :52.63, placed second in the 55 dash in 6.7 seconds and garnered fourth in the long jump with a distance of 19-feet-5 1/2inches.

Other Potter individuals in the top eight included Dylan Henricks (eighth, 55 hurdles) and Jacob Garber (eighth, 200 dash).

Kelsey Kirk and Ashley Pribble, both of whom were runners-up in their events, paced the Morton girls.

Kirk was second with a high jump of 5-6, while Pribble was in the same position with a 3200 run time of 12:02.99.

Lexis Ellis placed third for the Potters with a mark of 14-7 3/4 in the long jump. A 33-2 3/4 throw in the shot put elevated Maggie McMurtrey to fourth.

Also earning eighth for Morton were Lydia Nace (triple jump) and Caitlin Pribble (1600 run).
