Alex Shane blistered Coyote Creek Golf Club Saturday.

The Morton junior fired a terrific three-under-par 69 in the Coyote Creek Classic to win medalist honors by three strokes.

In a field loaded with strong teams and individuals, Shane made a statement in the season opener that he deserves mention in area discussions of the top players.

He helped the Potters finish 11th as a team out of 21 with a 330 total.

It was noteworthy that Morton beat the other five Mid-Illini Conference schools entered, including host Limestone.

Jordan Wanner had the Potters’ No. 2 score with an 82.

Anthony Williams added an 88 and Derek Reiman a 91.

St. Charles East held off Notre Dame by five strokes, 298-303, to win the team title.
