Morton Public Library director Janice Sherman said Pat McGuckin from the Illinois State Library has confirmed that Secretary of State Jesse White will visit the Morton Public Library, But, instead of Monday, the Illinois Secretary of State will be in Morton April 21.

According to the Secretary of State's website:

"The Illinois Office of the Secretary of State is the most diverse of its kind in the nation. From issuing driver licenses and registering vehicles, to promoting organ donation awareness, overseeing the Illinois State Library and administering the state's literacy efforts, my office directly touches the lives of nearly everyone in Illinois. "

Secretary White is a strong supporter of libraries and library services in Illinois.

The Morton Public Library has received two construction grants (1982 and 1998) from the Secretary of State through the Illinois State Library and receives Per Capita grants annually.  The Secretary of State's office funds Library Systems which provide statewide delivery services, continuing education, and coordinate cooperative computer systems and resource sharing among libraries.  Library Systems in Illinois provide a model of library cooperation and effective, efficient use of funds that has been replicated nationally.

"We invite community members to meet our Secretary of State and thank him for his support of libraries," Sherman said.
