Valentine’s Day is one of the busiest days of the year for local floral shops and eateries as they prepare to assist Morton citizens with making their holiday the best it can be.

Johnson’s Floral and Greenhouse employee John Gilkeson said, “Johnson’s is the place to visit for the highest quality flowers. It is what makes us unique. We carry a very high-end, specialty product.”

They offer pre-made arrangements and prices vary regarding the size and type of arrangement that a customer wants.

Roses are the most popular flower requested Feb. 14 from Johnson’s Floral and Greenhouse.

“Our product will outlast and outperform,” said Gilkeson of the popular floral arrangements that their shop offers.

Johnson’s not only offers flowers, but a wide variety of vases and containers as well.

“Feb. 14 is also an incredibly busy day for delivery. The earlier orders get better treatment, but we will be accepting deliveries up until the day,” Gilkeson said.

He explained that Johnson’s Floral and Greenhouse employees will be working very diligently the night before and on Valentine’s Day to assure the best for their customers.

He also noted, “We are open until we’re done.”

Maxine’s on Main owner Joan Dittmer said that by Jan. 28 her restaurant already had 13 reservations, and of that, 10 were couples.

“It is really a couples’ holiday,” said Dittmer.

She said Maxine’s has a very intimate ambiance paired with a delicious menu that will make any couples’ Valentine’s Day dinner very special.

Dittmer said, “Our menu is seasonal and we offer an American blending of foods and flavors.”
She recommends ordering one of the “flights,” an item of food or drink prepared three different ways, that they offer.

“I think it is a great dish to order especially if you have never tried one. February’s dessert flavor is chocolate, so we will have a dessert flight that is of a chocolate theme,” said Dittmer.

She said, “I recommend making a reservation as early as possible.”

Maxine’s on Main is open at 5 p.m. for dinner on Valentine’s Day and the last seating is at 8:30 p.m.
